The Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said that the railway board has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the horrific triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore that killed at least 275 people and injured over 1,100.

"Considering the administrative information, Railway Board has been recommending the entire case to the CBI for further investigation," said Ashwini Vaishnaw said while speaking to reporters in Bhuvaneshwar.The railway minister's remarks came hours after he claimed that the "root cause" of the accident and the "criminals" responsible for it have been identified.

"The root cause of the horrifying incident has been identified... I do not want to go into details. Let the report come out. I will just say that the root cause and the people responsible have been identified," the railway minister said on Sunday.

He inspected the restoration work which was underway at the site where the tragic Balasore train accident took place. As per the Railway Ministry, huge manpower has been engaged in the work. The ministry said more than 7 poclain machines, two accident relief trains, three-four railway and road cranes have been deployed for the same.
